Well, by now, we're past the midpoint of summer. As you know, it has been hotter and drier than usual. However, the Superintendent and his crew have been doing a great job of irrigating the course. But for a few brown spots here and there, the course is in excellent shape, especially compared to many others.
If you've played recently, you've ll notice the construction work going on at the 2nd and 3rd greens. Within a couple of months, work reconstructing those greens will begin in earnest. Play will continue during construction but there will be temporary greens for both holes.
There are some tournaments coming up that might be of interest:
- Friday, 27 August Member-guest, 1PM shotgun start
- Sunday, 29 August 9-hole couples tournament, 11:30-12:45 tee times
- Saturday, 4 September ABCD mixed quota, 8AM shotgun start
- Friday, Saturday, Sunday
17-19 September Member-member round robin

The High School golf team has begun practices for what should be an exciting season. Several of the players from last year will be returning, along with some “rookies.” Go Rangers!!

The Westborough Board of Selectman, at the request of the Westborough Country Club Operating Committee, (WCCOC) signed a new contract for Jack Negoshian.
This contract will run from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2014.
Jack successfully completed the Request For Proposal that was advertised by the WCCOC.
This proposal had a due date of November 11, 2009. Jack met this date with all of the requirements of the proposal in place. Separate price and non price information. The price information had to be submitted in a separate sealed envelope marked "Price proposal for Golf Professional". A $1,000 proposal guaranty in the form of a bank or certified check made payable to the Town of Westborough had to accompany this proposal.
His proposal was opened on November 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.at the Selectman's by a group of the Town Manager Jim Malloy, Town Counsel Greg Franks and Jim Willwerth and John Arnold from the WCCOC.
It was found to be in order and accepted. The full committee voted on it at their December Meeting and sent their request to the Selectman and the rest is history.
Also at the Selectman's meeting Lisa Welsh was appointed a full voting member of the WCCOC replacing Craig Nichols who resigned.

The course is in great shape, with the greens being
particularly fast: kudos to Mike Hightower and his staff.
